Twittering

Yes... it has been a long time since I wrote about my favorite topic, Jeanne Bright. Well, I just updated my blog to include some embedded code: my Twitter stream! Twitter is a short blog entry, using 140 characters or less. Although I signed up for it a really long time ago, I am going to try really hard to use it - or at least more than I use this blog.

Jeanne Bright!!!

So I've been slacking with this whole "ranking at the top of my name" thing. For a while this blog was sitting pretty on Google, and then WHAMMY! some other Jeanne Bright signed up at Classmates.com and now I've got competition. That, plus the fact that I have not updated in a while could mean that this blog's ranks could be slipping. I'm going to have some trouble competing against the longest running social network, but boy will I try!

As part of my job I have signed up for a number of e-mails through Media Post, which usually delivers relevant news about the media industry. Recently they sent one along about LookUpPage.com, which is similar to LinkedIn, except it does not promote itself as a social network. Instead, it uses SEO to try to ensure you (and the information you provide) get the top position on the SERP [search engine results page] for your name. With that in mind, here is a link to Jeanne Bright's page on LookUp Page.

And now, I'm going to try and a picture of myself to rank on Google. A glamour shot, if you will:

Jeanne Bright
Gorgeous. You can see the corner of my refridgerator on the left hand side over there. Obviously a professional shot.

Hey, I finally come up!

My mission of SEO-ing myself has almost finally worked. For "Jeanne Bright" or "Jeanne Kathryn Bright," I am currently at the fifth position with this blog. Hey-o!

Embarassingly, my profile on InstantCast comes in first. Yes, InstantCast. You might be asking yourself, "Jeanne Bright (ding! another shot at ranking my name), I didn't know you were an aspiring model/actress?!?!" You, reader, would be right. Instead, I am an inspiring search engine marketer, and created a profile to understand more about one of my clients .... nine months ago. Now I don't remember the password to go in there and delete it, so I guess it will stay with me forever. Harumph. But hey, at least I have a "vibrant personality," right?

While you're here, you should check me out on LinkedIn: Jeanne Bright.

Computer Animation

I haven't done this since I graduated from school, but I guess you could say that I 'concentrated' in computer animation for my art minor. Here are two short clips that I made.

This is a short story about a grasshopper who finds himself to become a hip hop violinist.

And this one is a lot quicker: I used an air hockey set-up to show dynamic movement:

Hope you like it...

Online Reputation Management for Individuals

For those of you from my Web Design Basics class that are worried about putting your name on the internet - don't worry! As long as you are careful (no social security numbers!) and monitor content out there that can apply to your name, putting your name on the internet can be very beneficial.

I found this article to be pretty interesting - it outlines a number of ways that you can utilize your brand (your name) and make sure you are putting your best (internet) face forward. Check it out!

Learning more about the internet!

Although I work on the internet for approximately 9 hours a day and spend around 2 hours outside of that for my personal enjoyment, I am still not satisfied with the amount of information that I understand about how the internet works. In school I might have spread myself out too thin (hello Psychology major with Business and Studio Art minors!), but I never realized how powerful understanding computer science could be for me in the long run.

In order to "expand my horizons" on this new-fangled world wide web, I recently registered for a Web Design Basics class at Parson's School of Design. This week's assignment was to create a blog and post some schtuff on it - luckily I was slightly ahead of the curve by a month or so. And, by the way, shout out to my random classmates who will be checking this out on Saturday!

Anyway, by the end of the class I will be able to make a three-page website. Hopefully this website will be a place for me to showcase my work (limited artwork/photography/computer animation/SEM stuff?) and may help me get my name on the internet. In the last post I touched on the fact that I've set up a personal goal to SEO myself, and so far it's not going as well as I would have liked (although I haven't been rigorously working on it). This class slash website will get my name out there, and hopefully it will get to the point where I can work on some freelance SEO or SEM. A girl can dream, eh?

A little about me...

In July I started at my current job as a Search Engine Coordinator. I interviewed for the job after researching the industry on Wikipedia, but I knew relatively nothing at all. In school, I believe the section on internet marketing went something like this: this is a website, this is a banner, and pop ups are bad.

After six months, I guess I would consider myself well enough involved, and the proof is in the pudding:

Google Adwords Professional

SHAZAM! Yeah, that's right ... After knowing next to nothing, I can proudly say that I am one of the few, the proud - certified search engine marketing professionals.

One other purpose of this blog, besides recounting my tale of trying to live in New York City without becoming a jaded "New Yorker" is to get my name out there. Although I am not looking for another job, I realized how ridiculous it is that as a search engine optimizer, I had not yet search engine optimized myself.

When looking under my name "Jeanne Bright" or "Jeanne Kathryn Bright" (that right there should help me out, right Googs?), the results were dismal. So over the course of the next few weeks, I hope to get to the top position in Google for my name, maybe rep my hood on Google images ... you know, standard search engine optimization.

Don't worry, I will keep all of you dedicated readers (Hi, Mom!) in the loop as to how it's going.

What the hell does that title mean?

A Bildungsroman is a novelistic form that concentrates on the spiritual, moral, psychological, or social development and growth of the protagonist usually from childhood to maturity.

miso·ne·ism : a hatred, fear, or intolerance of innovation or change.

---

Ever since I was little, I always hated change. I can vividly remember crying when a preacher at my church announced that he was retiring. I had never talked to the man, I was probably only 6. What generated my emotion was the thought of how my Sunday ritual was disrupted from what I had known for so long, and how the future was slightly unknown.

This fear of change no longer causes quite as much of an emotional distress, but I still have the tendency to stick to a daily routine in order to minimize any foreign changes. Albeit this daily routine is comfortable, I usually reach a breaking point where it becomes so boring that I need a change.

After living at home in Cleveland, OH for a month after graduating college, I needed a break from the dreary and sophmorish life I was leading. Although I am not always partial to large changes, I decided to move to New York City in persuit of a career in interactive advertising. At first this move was jolting, and I rarely left my apartment. But as I have lived here for almost six months, the hectic pace of city living is no longer different; it is my life.

This blog from here out will contain my tales of how I believe living in the city has changed my long-held perceptions to hopefully grow into a confident, well-established, and sucessful person.
